This is the Essence Montauk Black Bullnose, 3x24 in a slate face. Essence keeps the cleft texture of slate and drops the flaking that comes with the real stone.
A cleft slate face gives grip underfoot, which is why slate ends up in entries and mudrooms in the first place. Bullnose gives an exposed edge a finished, rounded profile, so a run of tile can stop without showing a raw cut.
The body is 9 mm and the edges are rectified, so it lays with a tight grout joint. The surface is matte. It is sold by the box, 4.65 sq ft per box and 10 pieces in it.
It is made in the United States, at Landmark's Mount Pleasant plant in Tennessee.
